Kamene Cultural & Research Center proudly announces the commencement of its latest eight-week residency period, featuring a dynamic duo of extraordinary artists: Marlon F. Hall and Austine Adika.
Kamene Cultural & Research Center, pioneered a unique approach to artistic collaboration that, brings together renowned artists and emerging talents to foster a transformative and boundary-pushing creative exchange.
Kamene Cultural & Research Center is offering a platform that goes beyond recognition and fame, to mentorship and growth. This distinctive approach creates a nurturing environment where artists of different stages in their careers inspire and uplift each other, contributing to a vibrant community of artistic exploration.
Austine Adika's artistry revolves around intriguing and captivating alien-like sculptures. His unique creations intertwine unlikely materials and colors with surprising spatial arrangements, giving rise to composite forms that both reflect everyday life and transcend beyond conventional boundaries.
Adika's versatile practice moves fluidly between materials and mediums, adapting to the times and spaces he inhabits. Employing carving, casting, welding, and assemblage techniques, he skillfully merges aspects of traditional sculptural methods with his background as a woodworker, metal smith, and furniture maker. Notably, Adika's work has been featured in the esteemed group exhibition, "Various Small Fires," hosted at Circle Art Gallery in 2021.
Marlon F. Hall, on the other hand, is a visionary social practice artist who artfully cultivates human potential and finds beauty in what may appear as community brokenness. Inspired by the words of Zora Neale Hurston, Marlon engages deeply with communities, actively listening to create art that resonates with the collective experiences of those around him.
A recipient of the prestigious Fulbright Specialist designation and a Tulsa Artist Fellow, Marlon Hall is also an integral part of the Greenwood Art Project. His work has achieved global recognition, featuring on the Google Arts and Culture platform, and he recently curated an Amnesia Therapy Salon Dinner for the acclaimed 2022 Venice Biennial. Through his socially engaged art, photography, film, and salon dinners, he skillfully fosters healing and hope within communities.
As these two exceptional artists, Marlon Hall and Austine Adika, embark on their artistic journey at Kamene Cultural & Research Center, we eagerly anticipate the groundbreaking and transformative creations that will emerge from their collaboration. Their diverse artistic practices, unique perspectives, and shared commitment to nurturing creativity will undoubtedly contribute to an enriching experience for both artists and the wider artistic community.
The Kamene Cultural & Research Center team is thrilled to witness the profound connections and growth that will unfold during this eight-week period. As we continue to push the boundaries of artistic collaboration, we invite art enthusiasts, patrons, and the creative community to follow their journey and witness the magic that transpires at Kamene Cultural & Research Center.
